Features of construction of pallet racks
Pallet racks are a collapsible storage system consisting of vertical racks (frames), horizontal beams (traverses), fasteners, limiters, shelves, protection and other optional elements.
Traverses
Horizontal beams are made of a metal profile of difficult section, intended for connection of vertical racks of pallet warehouse racks by means of special locks with hooks (bolt connection is possible also for strengthening of a design). Traverses are also the basis for organizing the storage space where the deck is placed. Transverse beams are classified on two grounds: length and cross section of the profile. Necessary traverses for rack constructions are selected based on the size of pallets and the required maximum load.
Frame
The basis of the pallet rack design is a frame that is assembled from racks, jumpers, fastening and protection systems. Pallet rack racks are made of high-strength steel with a large number of stiffeners, which increases the strength and stability of the structure. To prevent environmental influences and corrosion, the racks are covered with powder enamel. Perforation is made on the metal profile of the racks to fasten the tiers and additional accessories. The selection of racks is based on the maximum allowable load and architectural features of the storage room.
Additional design elements
Accessories for pallet racks are necessary to ensure the safety of storage systems and expand their functionality.
Optional elements of warehouse racks include:
- protective fences (metal and plastic bumpers);
- shelves for cargo placement (all-sheet metal, mesh, perforated, wooden and chipboard shelves, plastic decking)

This type of equipment includes the following types of racks:
- front (Double Deep racks, narrow passage systems, combined models with shelves - the most common type of pallet racks, used both at small retail outlets and at large logistics terminals;
- deep (printed, entrance, drive-in, push & back) - significantly increase the usable area of the storage area due to the formation of channels and are designed to handle the same range, which comes in large batches;
- gravitational - is an automated version of drive-in models, but the presence of a number of features allows to distinguish this equipment into a separate type of warehouse models, which are designed to handle a wide range of goods with high turnover, based on the principle of gravity;
- mobile - allow to achieve the use of usable space by 80-90%, by eliminating the space for passages between standard front racks, which are installed on mobile platforms;
- shuttle - pallet structures are designed for processing large batches of one article, are deep systems with an automated process of loading and unloading operations, using a mechanized shuttle.
