Purpose
This is a racking system with an automated platform (shuttle), which independently moves pallets along guides into the rack. The shuttle has sensors and is controlled by remote control. Like gravity flow racks, these systems are designed to store one SKU (stock keeping unit) in a channel.
The virtually unlimited channel length and the possibility to work on the FIFO (First-In, First-Out) and the LIFO (Last-in, first-out) principles make shuttle racks one of the most relevant logistics solutions of recent years. It is a perfect combination of capacity and functionality.

Description
Pallet shuttle racking systems are visually very similar to drive-in pallet racking, but the load-bearing profile has a more complex structure, which is necessary for a movement of an automated trolley (shuttle). As with gravity flow racks, warehouse equipment does not need to go inside the rack, which speeds up and increases the safety of operation.
The operator's task is to position the shuttle in the channel into which the lot is to be loaded and place the pallets on this mechanism. While the shuttle automatically moves the pallet into the rack, the operator can go for the next pallet. The shuttle moves at a speed of up to 1 m/s, which means that it will cope with its task before the forklift operator brings the next pallet. This ensures a high turnover rate and a degree of automation of the storage area.
The pallet shuttle racking systems provide the FIFO (first-in, first-out) operation – the first pallet loaded in the rack is unloaded first, as well as the LIFO (last-in, first-out) operation – the last loaded pallet is unloaded first. This provides greater flexibility of use and makes it possible to reconfigure the system in the future.
The self-propelled trolley is equipped with lithium-ion batteries, the capacity of which is enough for intensive work for 4 hours. Battery replacement is a simple and fast process that does not require special devices.
The capacity of the racking system and warehouse turnover are critical parameters for warehouse logistics. To achieve an optimum configuration of the pallet shuttle racking system, you need to find a balance between the necessary and sufficient size of the system and the number of shuttles to ensure optimal speed of operation. By increasing the number of shuttles, you can increase rack capacity many times over, without the need for additional staff and loading equipment.
An interesting function of the shuttle is the mode when it automatically transports all pallets to one of the two sides of the rack. This further increases the speed and capacity of the system. These operations can be carried out during work breaks or between shifts.
A standard shuttle system can be upgraded to a 3D movement format (Forward/Backward, Left/Right, Up/Down) and when integrated with the corporate WMS, makes it possible to automate the storage and shipment process as much as possible.
