Description
The AS/RS systems for crates are similar in principle to pallet storage structures: a stacking crane installed in the central pass moves the crate in depth and height to the required storage bin. Since only one crate can be handled per pass at a time, the AS/RS system performance is less than the shuttle system performance. The high speed of the stacking crane and the storage height make these systems also effective for warehouses with large flows of goods.
The advantage of these systems over shuttle systems is that they can be fully automated; however, the option with the presence of an operator who will manually control the operation of the stacking crane will be no less effective.
The use of these systems allows you to arrange the racks more compactly and use the warehouse space as efficiently as possible. This is because a stacking crane requires a much smaller working corridor than a diesel or electric forklift with a driver. Thus, the warehouse capacity can be increased by about 1.5-2 times without rearrangement of the building.
In order to make the warehouse operation as productive as possible, it is recommended to use additional automatic logistics management systems, for example WMS. At the same time, it is important that they are introduced after all movements of goods have been thoroughly analysed.
