Traction batteries play a significant role in providing reliable and efficient power to electric motors, and also act as a powerful tool for backup and storage of electrical energy. This type of battery has a high energy density and is able to provide high power during long-term cargo handling processes. They are widely used in warehouse equipment: electric trolleys, stackers, loaders.

Traction battery design
The overall design of a traction battery can vary significantly depending on the manufacturer, battery type, and type of use. It is possible to distinguish the main design elements of traction batteries: battery cells and modules; filler; insulation components; housing and protective cover; control and measuring devices and elements for connecting the battery, and cooling is also provided in some models.
To fully understand this power source, it is necessary to make a comparison with conventional starter batteries. Unlike a starter battery, which produces a high current to start the engine, the traction battery provides current to the electric motor for a long period of time, and also has thicker electrodes and a high-strength housing.
Among traction batteries, the following types are distinguished:
- Lead-acid (GEL, AGM) – with electrolytes in the form of gel and glass fiber, respectively. They can be used to start and maintain the engine in operating mode. They are highly resistant to deep discharge and a large number of charging cycles and are easy to recover.
- Alkaline batteries perfectly tolerate full discharge, can do without power for a long time, are resistant to vibrations and shaking. They are characterized by a low level of self-discharge, but require regular and professional maintenance.
- Lithium-ion batteries are widely used in electric vehicles, in particular with hybrid electric motors. They are characterized by high energy consumption, compact size and fast charging. They do not tolerate full discharge and overcharging, but they are equipped with protective blocks for this purpose. They have a limited service life, as the lithium layer decreases over time.
During the operation of traction batteries, it is necessary to strictly follow all the rules specified in the instructions. In particular, you should regularly and fully charge the battery, put it on a charge immediately after partial or complete discharge, and constantly check the level of electrolyte in the battery.
In order to determine which battery is needed for your business, you need to pay attention to a number of technical parameters: voltage, capacity and overall dimensions. When buying a traction battery, first of all, you need to inspect it and make sure that there is no mechanical damage.
The battery compartment of the equipment should be well cleaned and dried if necessary before installing the battery. For the normal unhindered release of gasses generated during battery operation, care must be taken to ensure that the compartment vents are not clogged or closed.
When installing batteries in the compartment, it is necessary to take into account their location in order to ensure the correct order of their connection with jumpers. After installing the necessary jumpers and connecting cables from the equipment, all connections must be covered with a protective lubricant to prevent corrosion.
