Reach trucks (stackers with retractable mast)

Description

Reach trucks are specialized warehouse equipment, which combines compactness and load capacity. The height of the pallet placement can reach 5 to 12 meters while providing a sufficient level of manoeuvrability and controllability for effective work in warehouses with multi-tiered racks.

The design allows you to service racks in the working aisle with a width of 2.7 m. The retractable mast helps to stabilise the load and help load the pallet even when placed in the upper tiers of the rack. These stackers can reach speeds of up to 15 km/h, which is almost equal to conventional electric forklifts. The drive wheel revolves on its axis, giving a steering angle of 180° or 360° (depending on the model); a standard forklift cannot achieve the same manoeuvrability in cramped premises.

Reach trucks can also be fitted with a two or three-section mast, and an angled steering column for absolute control of the work process. An optional fork chamber is available to control the level of the forks and to move the goods. It allows precise positioning of the pallet on the rack without the risk of damaging the structures. The forks are controlled in three planes and the distance between the forks is controlled by a lever system. To meet increased safety requirements, some models are equipped with an autonomous emergency braking system, as well as automatic speed control on turns.

The reach truck can be equipped with either a lithium-ion, lead or gel battery. The former provides maximum productivity throughout the working day using a partial charge without long downtimes. In other words, it is not necessary to wait for 100% charge: for full operation, it is enough to charge the battery during a 30-minute pause.
In addition, lithium-ion batteries are much more practical and safer to use than lead-acid ones. Some models come with an option of side discharge of the power supply for continuous operation — simply replace the discharged battery with a removable energy accumulator.

Gel batteries are less practical, primarily due to the need for constant monitoring of electrolyte levels and conditions. They will require a separate charging room due to the need for special equipment. They are also less resistant to temperature fluctuations than lithium-ion batteries and have a design life of 8-12 years; lithium-ion equivalents can last up to 20 years at active use.

Lead-acid batteries are the most difficult to use. You must carefully monitor operating processes and check the level and condition of the electrolyte in the cells. The advantages of lead-acid batteries are the wide range of models and the relatively affordable cost.
