Used pallet racking (selective racks)

Description

Buying used racks is a great way to save a lot of money. However, since the operation of storage racking poses great risks, not only to the goods stored but above all for human life, it is very important to choose the right used equipment, considering all the subtleties.

Conventionally, we can divide used racking into 2 categories:

1. Used until the last moment and just dismantled.
2. Those that have been lying outdoors for a long time, which look more like scrap metal.

The latter should be chosen with care as damaged parts can quickly become unserviceable through corrosion if exposed to moisture.

The design of pallet racks, regardless of the manufacturer, is very similar; the main differences are in the profile of struts, traverses and metal thickness. The main components of a pallet rack are vertical struts (upright frames) and horizontal cross beams (traverses). As with most storage systems, the strut of the selective pallet rack is a supporting element for two adjacent sections simultaneously. Therefore, the longer the row, the cheaper the structure cost per storage space.

The perforation of the rack of most manufacturers is made in increments of 50 mm (very rarely 75 or 100 mm) and allows you to optimize the height of the rack for your needs, as well as modify the configuration in the future. If the nature of the business does not allow for any future changes in pallet height, you can safely calculate the strut height based on the minimum and sufficient clearances, thus optimising the cost of the design.

The standard length of the traverse for the installation of three Euro pallets is 2 700 mm; it is the most economically advantageous size. The total length of the pallets is 2 400 mm, the remaining 300 mm are evenly distributed for safe manoeuvring of warehouse equipment. Accordingly, for the placement of two and four Euro pallets, the size of the traverse will be 1800 and 3600 mm.

Unfortunately, when buying used equipment it is very rare to find a design, which perfectly suits your business needs. If you want to save money, you have to make some compromises. We have a large base of regular clients and regularly update the list of available used racks.

You should not choose the rack solely on the large parameters of the width of the rack and the thickness of the metal upright frames and cross beams. It is enough to focus on the nominal loads declared by the manufacturer. The load-bearing capacity of a particular rack depends on the shape of the profile, the number of bends (stiffening ribs), the shape of the strut perforation, the number of teeth on which the cross beams are attached, etc. Therefore, you do not have to worry about the reliability of the racks but focus primarily on selecting the best layout of the racks to maximize their efficiency.
