Purpose
When goods are shipped in boxes rather than pallets, it may be advisable to use a special mechanism known as an order picker. It not only lifts the pallet but also the operator in a special cabin and this enables to take the goods directly from the upper storage tiers. This equipment is best used in the case of narrow aisles between racks (minimum 1600-1900 mm).

Description
An order picker is a mechanism for manual order picking. There are several types: with or without operator elevation, vertical and horizontal. Vertical order pickers have lifting heights up to 12 metres. With a total picking height between 5 and 12 metres, the picker is ideally suited to maximise productivity during order picking without violation of safety requirements by staff. This is also facilitated by the low required width of the working aisle (minimum 1.5 m).
The order pickers are used in warehouses with multi-tiered racks for sorting, checking, counting and order picking. The movement is controlled directly from the elevating cabin. This places high demands on the qualifications of the staff.
The mast and cabin design ensure the safety of the operator during work. The free movement carriage can pick up the load from either side and rotate in the desired direction; this feature is not found in every stacker and reach truck. An AC motor and a capacious battery will ensure long-term operation.
The battery options include gel, lead-acid or lithium-ion batteries. Most large enterprises prefer Li-ion batteries. This is due to several reasons: capacity, long life (up to 20 years), absence of toxic emissions in case of accidental damage, freeze-thaw resistance, ease of operation and maintenance.
The cost of an order picker is quite high, but the introduction of such a mechanism to a large warehouse provides an opportunity to accelerate the work of the entire logistics or production complex significantly, as well as to optimize the use of useful space. The increase in staff productivity will yield a positive return.
