Description
The automated AGV system maximizes the autonomy of repetitive processes within warehouse logistics. In particular, we are talking about the complete exclusion of a person from operations for placing pallets with cargo on racking structures.
The main element of such systems are self-driving vehicles, primarily forklifts and stackers. These devices are capable of placing goods on racks not only during working hours, but also during breaks (e.g. in warehouses without night shifts). In some cases, the efficiency of receipt and order processing can easily be increased by 2 to 2.5 times simply by integrating AGV into the internal work processes of a logistics centre.
Self-driving vehicles are equipped with a number of safety systems. In particular, we are talking about the technology developed by French company ECA Group. The principle of operation of the system is based on the SLAM method (simultaneous localisation and mapping). It allows the automatics to identify surrounding objects and plot a route in such a way as to avoid a collision. This works, among other things, in completely unknown environments and in conditions of uncertain location. The data is used for autonomous positioning and navigation. Numerous sensors, laser instruments and programmable logic controllers make AGV equipment safer than classic human-operated forklifts.
Nevertheless, for complete safety, it is necessary to separate the places of movement of pedestrians and self-driving vehicles. Curbs and kerbs can be used for this purpose. Besides, the route can be pre-programmed to prevent damage to equipment and infrastructure.
