Underground systems for the collection and storage of solid waste

Description

It is a simple, but at the same time innovative system, a combination of a hydraulic cantilever lift and classic 4-wheel bins. Underground systems based on lift platforms provide almost the same functionality as full-fledged German systems, namely blocking the spread of bad smells and dirt and restricting access to waste for homeless people and animals.

The main differences from German underground systems are smaller storage capacity and the longer time required for emptying. After all, in order to start loading the bins into the waste collection truck, you first need to raise the platform to ground level, roll out the bins and after emptying, place them in their places and lower the platform underground. In Sulo's underground systems, 5 m³ of waste can be loaded in 1 cycle and the time required is maximum 2-3 minutes.

Nevertheless, the Ukrainian alternative to German systems has its advantages. The most important argument is that lift table-based underground systems do not require special municipal vehicles for emptying the containers, which are usually much more expensive than standard waste collection trucks and are not available to everyone.

Inside the lifting platform, 1100 litre standard plastic or galvanised bins can be placed, which are tipped by trunnions or a comb. The size of the platform and the number of bins can be made to order. The potential intensity of use and the space available for arranging the pits must be taken into account.

Because the containers are located underground and come out in the form of columns, the most convenient storage of waste is provided, without the possibility of liquid, insects and animals getting inside. The roof closes the shaft in a tight manner, which eliminates the spread of unpleasant odours and protects containers from bad weather conditions.

Another advantage is the fact that the containers cannot be stolen or the wheels cannot be unscrewed from them, because they are safely concealed underground. Unfortunately, theft and vandalism are not unusual in Ukraine.

The receivers (columns) are made of durable stainless steel and can be powder-coated in any colour as desired. The columns can be equipped with various holes for a specific type of waste: glass, plastic, paper, organic waste. Colour coding of the columns makes sorting waste even more convenient.

The electric motor and automatics are located next to the platform, which can be accessed separately, without the need to lift the lifting device. This facilitates inspection and repair, if necessary. The underground system is equipped with a control console. A safety key protects it, which is available only to the waste removal company and a representative of housing cooperative.

The following important functions are optionally available: GSM module for transmitting information about bin filling, pump for emptying the pit, fire-extinguishing system, and manual control function during de-energising, discrete access, embossing, foot pedal for a column.
